Marbury basketball had a successful night on Tuesday, winning the Class 5A Area 6 championship for both the boys and girls teams. This victory guarantees them a home playoff game in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs. Despite a challenging first half and a 12-point deficit, the boys team made a comeback in the third quarter led by Blake Peterson, ultimately winning 53-44. Jamar Brown was named Most Valuable Player with 15 points and 5 assists. The girls team dominated their championship game, winning 100-34 over Holtville. Nunu Jernigan stood out with 38 points, 15 rebounds, and 8 steals, earning the MVP title. Coaches Will Turner and Reggie Brown praised their teams for their hard work and intensity on the court. Both teams are looking forward to the upcoming Class 5A Playoffs this weekend, with hopes of advancing to the Regionals. |
